Omega's Brittany Rogers 2008 Elite Canada Champion

Brittany Rogers - 2008 Elite Canada Champion(16/12/08)In the first major competition for Canadian gymnasts since the Beijing Olympics, 15-year-old Brittany Rogers of Omega showed why she's already considered a strong contender for the 2012 Summer Games with a sparkling performance on Friday at the Elite Canada meet for women.

Rogers placed first on vault, bars and beam and was third on floor to claim her first Elite Canada title in the senior women's all around competition with a score of 56.35 points.

Sydney Sawa of Calgary was second with 55.40 points and Charlotte Mackie, who trains with Rogers at the Omega Gymnastics Club in Coquitlam, was third at 54.90.

-I was bang on with everything," said Rogers just after the medal ceremony. -All the hard work I've been doing in training really paid off. To win like this at the first meet of the season really gives me a confidence boost."

Rogers said she was particularly pleased with her routine on the uneven bars where she executed three difficult release moves, letting go of the bar each time and grabbing it again on the way down.

Rogers continued her winning ways on Sunday in the event finals, winning 4 medals including 2 gold. Her performance continued a hot weekend in part due to wearing boots and gloves to keep her hands and feet warm between routines. With gold medals on vault and beam and silver on floor and bronze on uneven bars, it worked!
