The Kids CanMove program for elementary schools throughout Alberta enables teachers to safely teach gymnastics. This provides the students with physical literacy, confidence and the basic tools for lifelong activities, health and wellness.

The evidence is absolutely clear: children who are involved in sport and who are more physically active do better academically and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Gymnastics? Why not Dodge Ball?

The current perception of gymnastics is what is seen on television and during the Olympics, but gymnastics is much more! It is about physical literacy. The Kids CanMove program teaches basic movements that will help develop strength, balance, agility and flexibility to help students throughout their life. Additionally, these lessons fit well within the Daily Physical Activity requirement. All of which will help with a great game of dodge ball (or athletics or hockey or skiing or any activity out there)!

Gymnastics? We have no equipment!

The Kids CanMove program uses basic equipment that most schools already have available. All that is really needed is the school gymnasium, a few mats and, if available, a few benches. This program can even be taken outside to take advantage of the great BC weather!

Gymnastics? Where to begin?

The Kids CanMove program was designed to ensure that teachers with no previous experience can safely teach gymnastics.

The Kids CanMove program features a number of packages to choose from. It's as simple as completing the registration form and returning it to the Alberta Gymnastics Federation! Along with a Kids CanMove resource package, including a Teaching Manual, Lesson Plans and Task Cards, your school can choose to have a Kids CanMove certified instructor come into the school and instruct teachers on how to deliver the program themselves!

Our goal is that all schools in Alberta enjoy the benefits of the Kids CanMove program and take part, along with the Alberta Gymnastics Federaion, in the "physical literacy" revolution!
